Data International Data Corporation (IDC) said Huawei had shipped 310.8 million units of smartphones globally in the first three months of 2019. Although fairly large, the number dropped 6.6 percent from the same period last year. “It is increasingly clear that Huawei is focusing on their growth in mobile devices, with smartphones being the main ones,” said Ryan Ryeith, director of IDC’s mobile devices. According to IDC data, Most shipments of smartphones are still occupied by Samsung. Globally, smartphone shipments declined for the sixth consecutive quarter. But, Huawei grew in terms of shipping as much as 50 percent or 59.1 million units. Samsung also experienced a decline of 8.1 percent or a total of 71.9 million units in the first quarter. Meanwhile, for Apple, the first quarter of 2019 was a challenging period. The iPhone has shipped 30.2 percent of last year’s 36.4 million units. According to IDC Research Manager, Anthony Scarsella, the latest iPhone is more expensive but offers only a few updates. “In addition, the delay of 5G handsets might make consumers wait until the network and devices are available in 2020,” he said.
